CHAPTER EIGHT

DIESEL

I’d never seen Rory so upset before, and I’d been there when Slash had supposedly died. She was a fucking mess, frustration and fear seeping out of her in waves as she frantically called everyone she knew, seeing if they’d spotted him anywhere.

At first, she thought he might have been kidnapped, but then we mentioned he’d packed a bag, some of his clothes missing. The little shit had run away.

We stayed back while Rory tried to form a plan, her mood turning to anger towards us. We knew she didn’t mean it, but it didn’t mean it was pleasant.

The surprising part was when she called the cops for help. I never thought I’d see that day, but I also knew she trusted BG to a point. She’d called the Soldiers, the Kings MC up north, the Reapers, and even Rage fucking Evans. That’s how terrified she was. She didn’t care what price she had to pay the Devil for his help, but I was worried it would cost her something stupid. And probably a bit of pride.

“It’s my fucking fault!”

I glanced over at Rory to find Caden holding her biceps, trying to calm her down.

“We’ll find him, I promise. It’s not your fault,” he said gently as I approached. She tried to pull away, but he held firm as she kept yelling at him.

“It is! I shouted at him to leave me alone! He’s gone because of me! Why did I take them in? I can’t fucking parent them!”

My heart broke as her legs gave out and she broke down, Caden managing to catch her. I could count the times on one hand that I’d seen Rory cry. This wasn’t a little teary moment, this was heart wrenching sobs, her voice breaking as she screamed nonsense about being the worst guardian ever.

She was borderline hysterical, which was worrying the guys. None of us were used to dealing with her like this. Usually, she’d get angry and start stabbing people for answers.

Caden sat on the ground, pulling her against his chest and whispering in her ear, but I could tell he was struggling.

“We’ve got to get her inside,” Tyler murmured as he moved beside me. “She can’t go out and look for him, not like this.”

Lukas jogged towards her, speaking quietly before helping her to her feet. Surprisingly, she went with him into the house without argument. Caden joined us, his voice low. “Where the fuck could he have gone? We have to find him. What if those guys are still looking for him?”

“I’ll call Hendricks and see where he’s at. He was meeting up with Harley and Alex to start looking around the docks,” I suggested, and Tyler frowned.

“You think he’d go that far? He’s on foot.”

“We need to cover as many areas as possible. He’s probably not at the docks, but if he gets there, at least someone will be there waiting. There’s heaps of shit he could hide in down there, and I don’t want to risk him falling in and drowning.
